School Project

Foundation

Most importantly in our hearts at the moment is our school project. We are mentioning specifically in the hope that you might share our burden with us for the poor villagers in the five very poor villages surrounding this new school building. At the moment the children of this village (Mullipakkam), and five surrounding villages (Reddikuppam, konerikuppam, etc…) are forced to travel 15km to school and another 15 back. The Children in Mullipakkam must walk 5km to the bus stop and travel the remaining 10km by bus.

Why we started?

This means that children as young as 4 years old have to walk 10 km a day. Because of both the school fees and the bus fees, many children in Mullipakkam cannot afford to go to school and so simply stay at home and learn whatever little they can from their parents. This fact simply broke our hearts and we are so very pleased that, God willing, they will soon be able to travel to school easily within minutes.

Poor Villagers

As you may know, the last stages of a building project are often the most critical time, as we must concentrate on health and safety for the good for the children. We now estimate that it will cost around 5000 pounds to completely finish the building and apply for all of the correct certificates of approval. As I mentioned, most of the families in Mullipakkam are farmers by trade, simply because there is no other job to do.

Breaking the Circle

We hope to provide these children with an English medium education which will enable them to learn exactly the same as the richer children and, therefore, have the same head-start in life. We hope to teach them subjects which will enrich their future, such as, English and computer science. These subjects will give the children the opportunity to earn a decent living in their future. In order to give these children the education that they need, we need to employ ten well qualified teachers. Also, to provide a free education, like we would so love to do, we must find some way to pay the salaries of the teachers.

How to Help?

We would be really grateful if you could share this burden with us and help us to pay the ten teachers salaries. For each teacher it will cost around 80-100 pounds per month. We understand that this is a large sum of money for us to ask for when you do not know us personally but we would love to see you in India, and you could visit our different projects and see with your own eyes the works that the Lord is doing there in Tamil Nadu; we are also happy to welcome any voluntary workers in our school or orphanage etc.
