Pastor John was born in a poor family and grew up in poverty. He could not afford to study in his childhood so he had to stop his school studies at an early age. After he got married he found a job in the defense ministry as a military driver. This made him happy but in his personal life there was great sadness as he and his wife Rani lost three children, all at the age of one, to chickenpox. While he was working in the defense ministry, Pastor john used to wake up in the morning at 5 o’clock and come back in the evening at 9 o’clock. He used to catch the bus from Mamallapuram to Chennai (Madras), 45 minutes drive away. While he was on the bus he used to see small children in desperate need of food, they were forced into begging on the streets, washing cars at the bus stand and many other things just to survive. Everyday he saw this sight and he had compassion on them; he wanted to do something to help but he didn’t know how to start. At this point in his life a daughter, Julie, was born to him and his wife; she brought such joy to them, and thankfully she survived. A year later a son was also born, they were terrified when he got the same chickenpox which had taken their other children but God spared his life; they called him Moses and prayed that God would use him however He knew was right.
