astor John was born in a poor family and grew up in poverty. He could not afford to study in his childhood so he had to stop his school studies at an early age. After he got married he found a job in the defence ministry as a military driver. While he was working, Pastor john used to wake up in the morning at 5 o'clock and come back in the evening at 9 o'clock. He used to catch the bus from Mamallapuram to Chennai (Madras), 45 minutes' drive away. While he was on the bus he would often see small children in desperate need of food. They were forced into begging on the streets, washing cars at the bus stops and many other things just to survive. Every day he saw this sight and he had compassion on them; he wanted to do something to help but he didn't know how to start. At this point in his life a daughter, Julie, was born to him and his wife and a year later a son was also born, they called him Moses and prayed that God would use him however He knew was right.
Today Moses and Julie work with their father in Sinai Ministries and are eager to do the will of the Lord. Pastor John one day got a good opportunity to speak with some of the children he had seen on the streets in Chennai (Madras) and found out that they couldn't go to school because their families needed them to beg in order that they might survive. He asked the children to take him to their parents and he arranged with the parents that he would take the children and look after them in his home with his own young family. That day he brought five children from Chennai (Madras) to live with him. This was the beginning of Sinai Home for Orphans and the rest of Sinai Ministries soon followed. All of these things were done by God's will and by his grace alone; all the glory goes to Him.
Sinai Ministries is not funded by the Indian government so we rely solely on good-will offerings from friends around the world. Part of our ministry consists of an orphanage home which houses 25 children, three pentecostal churches and a nursery and primary school with 150 children. Sinai Ministries was established over 30 years ago by Pastor John Prakash-Nathan, who is still heavily involved with the day to day running. He now works alongside his two children and their spouses; his daughter and her family live in Mamallapuram and help day to day with the running of the ministry, and his son and his family currently live in England where they run 'The DaySpring Trust' which is an English registered charity which raises funds solely for Sinai Ministries.
